HC in Against The Grain cookbook!

Humble Ceramics was honored to be used in the new gluten-free cookbook  "Against The Grain" by Nancy Cain. Available on Amazon or through her website http://againstthegraingourmet.com/.

Nancy Cain came to gluten-free cooking simply enough: Her teenage son was diagnosed with celiac disease. After trying ready-made baking mixes and finding the results rubbery and tasteless, she pioneered gluten-free foods made entirely from natural ingredients--no xanthan or guar gums or other mystery chemical additives allowed. That led her to adapt many of her family's favorite recipes, including their beloved pizzas, pastas, and more, to this real food technique. In Against the Grain, Nancy finally shares 200 groundbreaking recipes for achieving airy, crisp breads, delicious baked goods, and gluten-free main dishes.

For any of these cookies, cakes, pies, sandwiches, and casseroles, you use only natural ingredients such as buckwheat flour, brown rice flour, and ripe fruits and vegetables. Whether you're making Potato Rosemary Bread, iced Red Velvet Cupcakes, Lemon-Thyme-Summer Squash Ravioli, or Rainbow Chard and Kalamata Olive Pizza, you'll be able to use ingredients already in your pantry or easily found at your local supermarket.

With ample information for gluten-free beginners and 100 colorful photographs, this book is a game changer for gluten-free households everywhere.

Humble Ceramics seconds? Noooooooo

NONE of our work is perfect!!! Not even the "premium pieces" you see in stores - and that is the beauty of it!  THAT is Humble Ceramics! So if you see an imperfection, embrace it, smile, and think of your own and the ones of those you love.

Many of you have asked about our "seconds".  Humble Ceramics doesn't believe in "seconds" as it feels totally disrespectful to the beauty of the object, the time, intention and love that went into each individual piece.  Our work is timeless ... every object is a small piece of hand-crafted [collectible] art! The flaws that we were influenced to think were not "beautiful" actually are the soul and charm of the work. Some just have more character ... so we call these "Wabi-Sabi".  Wabi-Sabi pieces are 30% off retail.

Some of the work that have a certain 'other' character will be transformed into Kin-Tsugi [the Japanese technique of mending the broken]. Kin-Tsugi pieces are 30% on top of retail - creating the perfect polarity to the Wabi-Sabi.

For any wares that do not fit into the three above categories, they get broken into pieces and will be donated to local mosaic artists (if you are one, contact us and we'll be more than happy to give you these weird magical and unexpected fragments) ...

We are trying to re-invent the way "things are done" .... These are all metaphors for who we are as beings, as a global community ... these are metaphors for the bigger picture, a reflection on society, where we come from, where we are heading, giving permission to be as we are, not a number, not fitting in a box, but purely different, perfectly imperfect, beautiful!

Wabi-Sabi & Kin-Tsugi pieces are only available at our studio and are retail pieces only. We do not ship or catalogue these as you have to fall in love with them and pick the one that speaks to YOU!  These pieces need to be touched, felt, weighted, smelled, and seen in person!

We will organize a Wabi-Sabi / Kintsugi event ... so keep your eye on the blog.
